About the project:
For the Déplacé.e.s series, JR organized processions in refugee camps and crisis zones to raise awareness about the millions of displaced children around the world. It began in March 2022 in Ukraine, where over a hundred volunteers held up the image of five-year-old refugee Valeriia to remind Russian fighter jets and the world of the children on the ground that needed protection. The project soon expanded to Rwanda, Mauritania and Greece.
In December 2022, JR brought the Déplacé.e.s project to Las Delicias, a neighborhood that is primarily made up of Colombians who have been internally displaced and Venezuelans who have fled their homeland. Over a hundred community members helped carry the enormous image of Andiara, a six-year-old Venezuelan refugee who had fled across the border to Colombia with her family a few years before.
The day ended with the picnic around the eyes of Angel. It was a joyous event, as the children ate, played, and danced to music.
